Many people ask, “Where did you guys get the idea for Ad-Tabs® coupons?” The answer is that the inventor (let's call him Adam) had a dream. He wanted to revolutionize the world of couponing, advertising and cooperative promotions. Having been in Advertising, Sales, and Marketing since college, Adam looked for an idea or product that would utilize his skills and expertise. Little did he know the path he was starting to follow would lead him to developing a most ingenious advertising method and business.
In 1992, Adam and his wife designed a frozen pizza called “R-Own” and began distributing it via route sales in Southeastern Wisconsin and Northeastern Illinois. The company grew to include sales to schools that were doing fundraising. Long hours and lots of pizza loading and unloading in refrigerated trucks made for a less than satisfying experience but it certainly kept everyone busy.
During this time, Adam started to become involved with distributing different forms of “collector” type sweepstakes cards, which some would say had questionable value. Adam would use the pizza route to sell the cards. He knew that these cards would never be accepted legally outside of Wisconsin. He also knew that he had to invent something that would sell nationally without legal problems and that coupons were not easy to sell.
